In celebration of New York City’s 400th Birthday, writer Harrison Hill traverses all five boroughs to visit the oldest shops, restaurants, bars, and bakeries that set the Big Apple apart.

This layout was a blast to work on. I knew I wanted to have hits of history throughout the design, so I mixed this beautiful serif with a font reminiscent of the font Gorton that’s used everywhere, from typewriters to elevator signage to create that mix of high and low. I also created some art deco-inspired doodads throughout to add another layer to the design.
